How to ace the Nursing Board Exam : The Thomasian way.

After our graduation which happened last June 8 2016 we started our review for the boards June 28. Yeah, deep inside me I was complaining. I was not able to enjoy the feeling of being a graduate and here we go again, going to study.

Ok so much of the rants . Let me now share to you how did I prepare for this one exam that will put me to the roster of the Registered Nurses in this country.

These tips might or might not work for you. This can be just a guide in case we have the same learning style. I can say that for me it was effective. Hello?! 84.3 board rating duh! .2 na lang topnotcher na wag kayong magulo jan. HAHAHA humble talaga ako sorry.

One more thing we did not enroll to any review center outside. UST is our second home and they want to make sure that we were getting the best. We did an in house review. I was really happy with this. Di na ako mahihirapan maghanap ng review center. The best of the best is already at reach. Ibang level yung galing ng mga prof namin. Iba iba ang style pero pare pareho magagaling. Another advantage is that they were our professor before so we already know their style. And we do not need to adjust a lot.

To make it easier to all the Nursing major peeps out there let me use the Nursing process to explain how I prepared.

Assessment.

This phase is very important. This is the time where you can contemplate. Am I good with this subject? Am I having a hard time understanding the concepts of this certain area? Am I a visual learner? Do I need to study alone? or with my peers? Do I need to spend all my nights studying?

Assessing yourself will make your review easier. Di mo na kailangan magsayang ng napakaraming oras sa mga bagay na kaya mo na. In UST we were given a lot of diagnostic examinations. Like sobrang dami to the point na napipikon na kami. Nakakapagod kaya mag shade at magbasa ng napakahahabang questions. But just like what I always say, sa huli kami rin ang nakinabang sa lahat. Because the result of the exams will help you determine your challenge and of course your strength. This will also help the professors decide on how are they going to handle the review. On where will they focus.

Assessing yourself will also help boost your confidence that will really bring you far in this board exam journey.

Diagnosis.

Now that you are done assessing yourself you can now finally diagnose what are your strengths and weaknesses. You can now know what kind of questions gives you a hard time. You need to take the first phase seriously so that your self diagnosis will be accurate.

Planning.

For me this is the fun phase of my review preparation. This is the phase where I started to make a calendar for my personal review. I actually study on my own even we have review classes at UST. This was the time where I also made my reviewers. I saw other people putting manila papers on the walls of their rooms. I did that as well. HAHA you know para in. I also put a lot of post its on the wall beside my bed. I made flash cards so that whenever I go out with my friends I will not feel guilty because I can still read even I am outside. HAHA you know compensating.
I flat lay mo para di boring ang review

For the major subjects Psychiatric Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Community and Fundamentals of Nursing I gave 1 week for each. This is very nerdy and might not help other but I read my textbooks cover to cover for Psych Nursing, Obstetrics and Gyne, Pediatrics ,Fundamentals and Community. It was a relief for me to be able to read evertything again. I want to be really sure. I want to be book based because we were told that the Board of Nursing is basing the answers on these prescribed books. I really tried my best reading my Medical Surgical Book which was BRUNNER AND SUDDARTH but my God I really cannot. I will run out of time if I will push through with it. The texts were so small and the pages were so big. The book also has 2 volumes. I changed my gameplan with MS. I decided to use my old notes and the Udan book for my reiew. Always trust your notes. And always update it whenever you are attending a lecture.
Always pair your review with the food that you enjoy the most. It lessens the burden but adds on the calories.

Implementation.

For me this was the hardest part. I was not the most ideal kind of student during the review. I am always late and a lot of times absent during the review. Not only me but a lot of my classmates as well. HAHAHA name dropping na ito. Yes, I was like that. I skipped review classes. But I can assure you one thing. Whenever I am in class I make sure that I listen and I participate. Guys, that is one advice that I can give you. ALWAYS PARTICIPATE IN QUESTION AND ANSWER. The things that our professors usually asked of repeatedly were the things that appeared in the exam. And luckily since I answer a lot in class, I was able to remember those questions. Always involve yourself in the learning process. That is one of the best ways to retain knowledge.

Where is the trace of sleepless nights? NONE AT ALL!

Hi Ma'am Sundee. She also produced a batch of 100% passing for batch 2017

Evaluation.

This was the part where the only thing that you can do is to pray that everything will turn out right. That the questions in the examinations, are the questions that you know so well. Because no matter how easy the question is but you are not familiar with it, then you will still get it wrong. Evaluation for me can also be your pre board exam.

Pre board exam.

UST has their own manner in giving their pre boards. It was one hell of an exam. I have no words for it. WALA. Intense. The only time where you can lift you head and remove your eyes from your paper, is the time when you are to get a new set of exams. Sobrang daming pages. The questions are so long and the time they give is too short. Damn this training. But then again at the end it was our batch who reaped good fruits. 100 percent passing rate and a lot of topnotchers. Special thanks to Sir Origenes and Ma'am Sevilla for being so strict, and it was all because they want us to pass. I love them a lot.
See? we even have time to make sure our OOTD'S were on point

This girl beside me even slept a lot during the review. But hey!!!! She is a Topnotcher! Love you Marian!

The most important evaluation will happen after you get the results of the examinations. So in order for you to get that RN. You must work hard for it. Trust me, you don't need to kill yourself and exhaust your soul in order to pass. You can relax. You can laugh. You can go out with friends. But make sure that your focus is still on that RN. Again, review classes does not prepare you for the board exam. The moment you entered your university for the first time is the best time to prepare for that RN. 4 years in Nursing school is more than enough. You just need to treat every experience as a future board exam question.
with the MASTER. Ma'am Udan.

Lastly, magdasal. PRAY. All your efforts will be put to waste if you do not ask for the intervention of the Lord. Nursing or whatever profession it is. The field of study is too vast. You do not know what will appear. It is him who has the power to decide if it will be given to you. If you will be deserving to serve his people. To be an extension of his healing hands. You can never do it alone. We all need his help and he will never fail us. Our reagent told us during the mass before the exam. "knock, and it shall be open unto you"
SECTION 3 REPREZENT!

So there. I hope this could help you study for the greatest exam of your life.
